Australia's Telstra Ranked Equal 1st In Corporate Governance

Telstra (ASX:TLS) has been awarded equal top ranking in a report rating the corporate governance practices of Australia's top 250 companies by market capitalisation.

The national telco tied for first with AMP (ASX:AMP), Commonwealth Bank (ASX:CBA) and Crane Group (ASX:CRG) in the Horwath 2005 Corporate Governance Report.

The four companies were among 33 who were also awarded a five-star rating, meaning they were found to have met all best practice standards and could not be faulted.

Last year only 17 companies received the top-rating.

Telstra company secretary Douglas Gration said the company was pleased to have received top ranking again after it achieved the feat, and a five star rating, in 2004.
