The role and operation of an audit committee

Increasingly, audit committees are becoming an essential part of governance in a public body. Many public bodies have already established audit committees. Others are still considering how best to do this. But how should they operate to be most effective? Should they include independent members? Should the chairman be independent of any governing body?

These questions and others will be explored and answered in a series of regional workshops being organized by the CIPFA Better Governance Forum.
