Where the women aren't


Nancy Lockhart joined a new club this year. She was appointed to a corporate board.

"I was absolutely thrilled," said Ms. Lockhart, a former retail executive.

Ms. Lockhart said she was "cold called" by the corporate governance committee at Loblaw Cos. Ltd. Still, she was hardly a stranger to the board. Ms. Lockhart is chairwoman of the Ontario Science Centre, where Loblaw chairman Galen Weston and director Tony Fell had worked with her in that role. She also has strong social ties to Toronto's corporate inner circle. She figures it was that combination of industry experience and personal contact that tipped things in her favour.
