Spanish employer association needs to renovate

The Spanish employers’ association, Confederación Española de Orgnizaciones Empresarial (CEOE) is currently in the election process for the presidency, due for a decision in February, 2006. The incumbent, José María Cuevas has been in the job for over 21 years, since his first election victory on the 23rd May, 1984.
Mr. Cuevas has thrown his hat into the ring for yet another mandate, number 8 and, given his contacts and influence, the letters of support and commendation are flowing in and the alternative candidates are getting the message not to show up. His reelection appears to be a shoe-in.
After 22 years in the job both the employers’ association and Mr. Cuevas need a change and both would benefit. It would be to his credit if he stood aside voluntarily.
