Parliament to discuss governance of VWOs, NS defaulters

Parliament will sit on Monday and among the issues tabled are standards for good governance of voluntary welfare organisations and a review of procedures to allocate rally sites during general elections.

In all, MPs have tabled 33 questions for the year's first sitting.

They have asked if the government will consider assistance schemes to help VWOs meet the requirements of financial control and management.

They are also asking if the authorities will take steps to deal with recent jams at the Woodlands Checkpoint and Tuas Second Link, especially during festive periods.

Opposition MP Low Thia Kiang has asked if procedures for allocating sites for rallies during the general elections will be reviewed to ensure a more equitable distribution to political parties.
