Diversity into drivel


It is dinner-time at the Waldorf Astoria in New York. Several hundred of America's top executives are sitting around beautifully laid tables celebrating the rise of women in the workplace. Steve Ballmer of Microsoft is chairing the do and lots of other chief executives in glad rags are lending moral support.

Towards the end of the speeches everyone in the room raises a kaleidoscope to an eye and squints through it. At the microphone a woman is speaking: "Open your eyes. Look for talent," she says. "Look for diversity. See women. See inclusion. Get success."
