Parties clash over governance issues
Pre-Election squabbles between coalition leaders AKEL and opposition DISY over matters of interior governance and the Cyprus problem dragged on yesterday in the wake of the two parties’ weekend conferences and the statements that ensued.
President of DISY Nicos Anastassiades repeated his accusations about the government’s inactivity in the island’s ongoing division and added that his party would not become an accomplice in the partition of the island due to those who are apathetically observing what is going on.
He also mentioned that the President Tassos Papadopoulos has continuously condemned and rejected the initiatives and ideas of the UN.
Concerning matters of interior governance, Anastasiades said the government is lacking the vision and the will to realise its national programme, while he also referred to “clumsy handling” of matters that have resulted in the multiplication of problems.
