
The shareholder revolt against Arcelor's merger with Severstal of Russia gained momentum on Wednesday night after it was claimed that almost one-third of Arcelor shareholders had signed a letter demanding the right to vote on the deal.
Luxembourg-based Arcelor's friendly deal with Severstal would create the world's largest steelmaker and give Alexey Mordashov, a Russian steel magnate, a 38 per cent stake in the new company.
