Countries slow to enforce OECD anti-bribery convention
While the overall trend in the fight against corporate bribery overseas is positive, the UK is among those major trading nations that have failed to enforce the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development’s anti-bribery convention.
According to a report by Transparency International (TI), there have been no prosecutions under the convention in the UK, Japan and the Netherlands, and only one prosecution in Italy and one in Canada. In comparison, total historical prosecutions in the US rose to 50 in 2006 from 35 in 2005; while France has now carried out eight prosecutions, an increase from the three carried out by 2005.
