
On 29 November, the EU established its first set of national allocations under its emissions trading scheme for the second trading period (2008 - 2012). This first set of decisions concerns 10 countries: Germany, Greece, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Slovakia, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
The decisions on national allocation plans under the EU emissions trading scheme have underlined the EU's commitment to take effective and early action on climate change.
