Governance Paper Request for Comments

January 26, 2007, the World Bank Group sought feedback on issues related to a new approach to strengthening the Bank's governance and anticorruption work. The approach is laid in the paper, Strengthening Bank Group Engagement on Governance and Anticorruption , as well as in a work plan developed by Bank Management. Interested parties were invited to answer a series of questions below or to send comments directly to governancefeedback@worldbank.org.

As set out in the work plan, the Bank consulted widely with representatives from governments, donors, civil society, parliaments, private sector, academia and other stakeholders during this period. In addition to the web feedback, the Bank held consultations in 37 developing countries and 12 donor countries through face-to-face meetings and videoconferencing. The Bank also held several consultations with global audiences in addition to seeking feedback through the web. An estimated 3,200 individuals participated in the consultations around the globe.

The Bank is currently analyzing the findings from all of the written submissions and the consultation meetings. The findings will help the Bank refine the strategy and guide implementation. A revised paper taking into account the main findings from the consultations will be prepared for the Board to review in March 2007. The Development Committee has requested a report at its next meeting on April 15, 2007 at the Bank-IMF Spring Meetings in Washington, DC.
