
The controversial law that shields Volkswagen, Europe’s largest carmaker, from takeovers is illegal and should be scrapped, a senior adviser to the European Union’s highest court has found.
Damaso Ruiz-Jarabo, an advocate general at the European Court of Justice, on Tuesday argued that the law acted as a block on the free movement of capital within the EU because it prevented “any intervention in the management of the company”.
