
We should not expect too much from the controlling shareholder group of Capitalia, including ABN-Amro. The way they have behaved with Capitalia´s governance to date shows that backroom machinations are the way they go.
Unfortunately too much of this goes on in Italy and, in this case, ably assisted by ABN-Amro, who have not demonstrated great governance performance themselves.

Capitalia’s largest investors on Monday reinstated the chairman of their controlling shareholder pact, making it more likely that there will be a quick resumption of hostilities at the top of one of Italy’s largest banks.
Vittorio Ripa di Meana quit last month as chairman of the pact, which owns 31 per cent of the shares and has a comfortable majority on the board.
