Help wanted: Good, strong leaders


Passionate, quality management is the most crucial factor in turning around organisations, writes Tony Manning.

There are many reasons for under-performance in the civil service.

But the one that stands out above all others is a lack of competent, caring, in-your-face management. At the end of every school year, some of the best results come from the most unlikely places.

There’s always a school in a tough neighbourhood or remote rural area that should produce lots of failures but doesn’t.

In spite of lousy classrooms and a shortage of equipment, the teachers are happy and the kids excel.
