Tensions at top of Capitalia flare despite truce


This is good news. The Chairman is under investigation, for the second time, and should step aside and let the business go ahead unimpeded.

Tensions at the top of Capitalia are flaring up again just weeks after the chairman and chief executive of one of Italy’s largest banks struck an uneasy truce in their dispute over merger strategy.

People close to the bank say the board will soon discuss a report from three directors who have been studying the effectiveness of the management and executives’ relations with the board. Matteo Arpe, the chief executive, could again face a curb on some of his powers at the urging of Cesare Geronzi, the chairman who tried to remove him from office in February.
