
Mr. von Pierer has been commended by some for the fact that all his actions were in the interests of his company. This may be so, although his career, both in the company and in public life, was not hurt by his actions.......on the contrary.
I have no doubt that his support of corruption, if proved, was in the interests of Siemens securing contracts, although some behaviour appears to have been more beneficial to individuals than to the company.
Nevertheless, corruption and illegal activity, if proved, can never be in the interests of the company on whose behalf they are justified.
It sounds like the whitewashing of his reputation has begun in earnest.

Heinrich von Pierer, who resigned as chairman of Siemens late on Thursday, hit out at prosecutors’ investigations into twin scandals at the German engineering group, saying he failed to understand the ”disproportionate” decision to arrest a senior executive last month.
The decision by one of the leading figures in German business to leave his job early after 38 years in an attempt to draw the heat out of the scandals was warmly welcomed by investors.
