Slim down for eco-friendliness


New research has indicated that UK business could make significant cost and carbon savings by switching from PCs to thin client technology.

A study by IGEL Technology saw researchers at the Fraunhofer Institute in Germany compare PCs with thin clients in terms of energy consumption and environmental-friendliness.

The research discovered that up to £78 million in electricity bills could be saved every year if all PCs were swapped with thin client technology, while 485,000 tonnes of carbon could also be saved annually.

Stephen Yeo, strategic director of worldwide marketing for IGEL Technology, said: 'The financial savings are significant but the impact on cutting CO2 emissions is impressive.
