If it is shown that Mr. Wolfowitz was instrumental in the promotion and increase in salary for no other reason than that he was involved with his partner, he must go!
There is no justification for his ´mistake´ and he must have known what he was doing.
I have supported his drive against corruption in World Bank projects and, if he does go, hope this is not forgotten by his successor. However, if found guilty, this will be a clear case of nepotism, the stuff he was said to be fighting.
