BCA Infrastructure for Sustainable Economic Growth

Quality, well-planned infrastructure, including water, energy and transport networks, is essential to support economic growth and position Australia as an internationally competitive economy.

The BCA’s Infrastructure Action Plan (March 2005) found that because of poor planning and policy choices, Australia’s infrastructure is in urgent need of expansion, reform and repair.

The BCA’s action plan was influential in increasing public debate on infrastructure renewal in 2005, helping to elevate it to a position of national policy importance which in turn saw it placed on the agenda of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).

In March 2006 the BCA released an additional report, Benchmarking the Progress of Infrastructure Reform: Challenges, Milestones and Outcomes, which contained a list of key performance indicators the BCA identified to monitor federal and state government progress on infrastructure reform and renewal.
