Top executives’ earnings double


Total earnings of FTSE 100 chief executives have doubled over the last five years to average £3.17m annually, according to Incomes Data Services, the pay and benefits specialists.

Its annual report on directors’ pay comes amid increasing criticism of the scale and rate of growth in boardroom remuneration. An opinion poll conducted this summer for the Financial Times by Harris found that almost 60 per cent of UK citizens thought that the government should cap the earnings of senior executives.
