It is imperative that we now act on the policy guidelines, pushing the key principles of sustainability into every aspect of modern British life. The recently published indicators on the progress of Securing the Future have demonstrated that there is much still to be done to improve environmental performance in a number of sectors.
Sustainable Development 08 will focus on both policy and delivery, with our morning plenary assessing the legislation surrounding sustainability, analysing the implications of the indicators on its progress to date. Speaking in the morning plenary are Sara Parkin, Founder, Forum for the Future; Yvette Cooper MP; and Malcolm Wicks MP, Minister for Energy.
Our afternoon session, taking the form of a panel debate, will focus on the next stage – delivering real results and practical action on the Government’s high hopes for sustainable development. The panel debate will include Jonathon Porritt, Chair, Sustainable Development Commission; Trewin Restorick, Director, Global Action Plan; Jill Rutter, Director, Sustainable Development Directorate, Defra; and David Vincent, Technology Director, The Carbon Trust.
