The European Commission, DG Environment is organising a one-day stakeholder conference "Towards a comprehensive and ambitious post-2012 climate change agreement in Copenhagen" on 15 October 2008 in Brussels.
Representatives from public authorities, business community, trade unions, consumer organisations, scientists and NGOs from developed and developing countries are invited to share their views on the key elements of a global post-2012 climate regime (see draft agenda).
The event will focus on three main themes:
* Mitigation commitments by developed countries covering issues like role of domestic and global carbon markets, comparability of emission reduction efforts, scaling up and sharing financial support to developing countries.
* Appropriate mitigation actions by developing countries covering issues like measurable, reportable and verifiable actions by developing countries, design for technology cooperation and structure and priorities for financial support.
* Adaptation to climate change covering issues like priorities for technology cooperation, financial sources and mechanisms for adaptation, as well as institutional architecture and enabling environment.
