A major study on the economic importance of nature is seeking input from businesses across all sectors.
The economics of ecosystems and biodiversity (TEEB) initiative was launched by environment ministers at the G8+5 meeting in March 2007, and was partly inspired by the early action and policy change achieved by the Stern Review on the Economics of Climate Change.
“Nature is far more than spring blossoms in a city park or a weekend in the countryside. Its complex ecological systems and its vast array of plant and animal species are critical to our economic wellbeing. If we destroy nature, we destroy the true natural foundations of our economy,” said Frank Vorhies, director at Earthmind, a Geneva-based sustainability association and a member of the TEEB report drafting team.
