Tackling Resource Challenges in the 21st Century: Avoiding Worst Case Scenarios

When: Tuesday 10 November 2009 09:00 to 18:00
Where: Chatham House, London, UK

This conference, designed as part of a longer terms series of activities by the Energy, Environment and Development Programme, is intended to take a fresh look at worst case scenarios; focusing on the potential consequences not only of inaction, but of misguided action and policy failure. The aim is to generate innovative thinking and to highlight flashpoints in international affairs associated with resource challenges and management in the next quarter century.

Four expert sessions will explore the interdependent challenges of climate change, energy, water and food while discussing the importance of applying worst case scenario thinking; emerging technologies and risks; regional fault-line issues that allow the practical exploration of worst case scenario thinking; and long-term policy options in anticipation of the December Copenhagen climate summit.

The event is to be co-hosted by the BBC's The World Tonight. A programme dedicated to the conference debate will be broadcast the following day.
