Poor relations with managers is main source of staff discontent

Nearly four in ten HR professionals found that poor relationships between managers and workers had been the main source of staff discontent last year.

A survey of 5,000 HR professionals by the law firm Speechly Bircham and King's College London revealed that 39 per cent believed a breakdown in boss-employee relations was the main reason grievances were lodged.

This marks a huge increase on the one per cent that gave the same response in the 2008 survey.

Bullying and harassment were noted as the main causes of poor relations at 31 per cent, an increase on the 15 per cent recorded the previous year.
