Will shareholders rise to the ownership challenge? Ensuring regulatory and structural reform brings results
The first ICGN Conference of 2010 is hosted by the City of London and takes place at the Guildhall. An international line-up of speakers will debate whether shareholders, in this climate of regulatory uncertainty, can effectively take up the ownership mantle and be actively engaged with the companies. Will they be supported or hindered by regulatory and good practice guidelines recently promulgated in response to the financial crisis? What role can shareholders play in mitigating excessive bank bonuses and how much influence should they have in nominating directors to the board? Confirmed speakers include Sir David Walker, author of the Walker Review of Corporate Governance in UK Banks and Financial Institutions; Lord Paul Myners CBE, Financial Services Secretary to the Treasury and Sir Christopher Hogg, Chairman of the UK Financial Reporting Council, along with Antoine de Salins, Executive Director of the French Fonds de Réserve pour les Retraites; Sir Richard Lapthorne CBE, Chairman of Cable & Wireless, and Finn Johnsson among many others.
