Reputations are fragile; Character matters
I suspect that at one time or another we have all done something we wish we hadn’t. Often these are just embarrassing moments. They can also be learning experiences from which we move on with our lives as better people. This is particularly true when we are young and it is expected that we will learn by doing and make course corrections along the way. It’s just part of growing up.
As we progress through our lives and into adulthood, however, we develop patterns that follow us. We become known by who we are and what we stand for, by what we do and what we don’t do. We develop a reputation that can be flattering and admired or that can close doors and limit our options.
