The federal government says it won't do business with companies not engaging in gender equality but the opposition says some industries that employ more men than women will be unfairly penalised.
The warning's come from opposition spokeswoman for the Status of Women Michaela Cash who says the coalition won't support the introduction of excessively punitive measures that may have unintended consequences.
