The number of women in senior management is on the rise in the UK and Europe at last – with higher percentages being employed as chief financial officers (CFOs), in other FD roles and as human resources (HR) directors.The women in business survey data from Grant Thornton’s International Business Report (IBR) was released to mark International Women’s Day today [8 March]. It shows that Europe has been catching up with its peers in emerging markets, which have seen a fall this year, with the proportion of women in senior management in Europe rising steadily from 17% in 2004 to 20% in 2009 to 24% in 2012. The UK has seen an increase in female take-up of senior roles from 18% to 20%.
