Preventing Food and Nutrition Crises

Slow onset food and nutrition crises reoccur in vulnerable regions of the Sahel and Horn of Africa despite increasingly accurate early warnings. A number of recent reports have recogniZed the links between recurring acute food and nutrition crises and chronic food insecurity in these regions. New approaches to link long-term development with emergency response and increase flexibility are being experimented by traditional donors and national governments, while new emerging donors are playing an increasingly important role in responding to crises.

This roundtable will explore the most effective approaches for preventing food and nutrition crises and will in particular examine the role of donors in tackling the problem.
