Regulatory expenses attendant to being a publicly traded corporation have more than doubled for many public companies in the wake of corporate governance reform.
Conventional wisdom rightfully predicted that compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements would increase the cost of doing business. Contrary to some predictions, however, the increased cost was not a one-time event; cost increases accelerated in FY 2003 and, according to some reports, costs continue to increase in FY 2004.
