The highlights of this year’s Board Index are:
* Only four companies have a chairman who is also chief executive
* Average basic non-executive fee is almost £41,000
* 50 per cent of companies have at least one foreign non-executive
* 62.7 per cent have at least one woman non-executive
* 97 per cent have now appointed a senior independent director
* All companies now have an audit committee and a remuneration committee
* Almost 97 per cent pay additional fees to committee chairmen, up from 83 per cent
* Almost 33 per cent pay additional fees to members of some committees
