Britain’s top anti-terror cop was last night backed over the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes — and praised for saving “dozens of lives”.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith led a heavyweight campaign to support Met Police Assistant Commissioner Andy Hayman.
Ms Smith also gave the thumbs-up to Met Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair in the wake of the official report into the shooting — a sign she wants both to stay.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission’s probe into the death of Mr de Menezes, 27, in London in July 2005 said disciplinary action should be considered against Mr Hayman.
