Exploring the Role Good Judgment Plays in Leadership


It’s hard to say what makes a good leader. Charisma and intelligence are, of course, important, as is character.

But just as vital is good judgment. It is the quality that guides leaders in knowing which opportunities to pursue, what people to hire and how to mold cohesive organizations. Without good judgment, charismatic and intelligent leaders will lead their organization down the wrong path—or start down the right one, only to find that no one is following them.

So just what is good judgment? Is it innate or can it be taught? And if it can be learned, how does one study it?
